Once again I’m proud to be Australian today.  I woke to the news today that Mathew Mitcham took at the first diving gold medal for Australia last night in Beijing.  I just saw Matthew being interviewed on the telly. I didn’t know much about his story. But Matthew made headlines a few weeks ago when the sponsor agreed to send partners with the team along to Beijing. Mathew elected to take his boyfriend along.
Not only is Mathew a very talented diver… but also very brave to be open about his sexuality. It makes me think about those recent athletes who have not been so brave, and even since retiring are still closeted!  Today I woke up to a new breed to Australian athlete. Well done to Matthew. Our new Australian champion!  You’ve made us all proud!

Change of Plans
Well the trip to Germany with work got cancelled last week.  The company is putting a freeze on discretionary spending. So instead I am taking a vacation myself at the end of this.  I am going with my mate Frank to Thailand for a couple of weeks of sightseeing, shopping and lying on the beautiful beaches in southern Thailand.
If anyone has travelled to any of the beaches in Thailand and have any advice on where to go please drop me an email.  I’m thinking we’ll go to either Phuket or Koh Samui. Both look like pretty beautiful places.  Of course it’s bad news that I don’t get to go and meet my colleagues in Germany… but my vacation will make up for it!
Olympic Men
I have been rushing home each day this week to watch the Olympics.  I missed seeing the past two Olympic Games so it’s been nice to sit and watch it this year. Especially on my big screen telly.  So far I love the swimming and the synchronized swimming. Also seeing Michael Phelps and Stephanie Rice accept their medals was great too!   Someday I would love to attend an Olympic Games.
